Due to its similarity in appearance to the deserts of Arizona, the province of Almería has proved very popular in the past as a location for the filming of numerous spaghetti westerns. The village of Tabernas has proved particularly popular, and the film sets from movies such as A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago all still exist. Even John Lennon filmed his acting debut, 1967’s How I Won The War, in Almería, and was joined on set by Ringo Starr.
A trip to Mini Hollywood, less than an hours’ drive from Agua Amarga, is a fun-filled excursion for all the family and a must for all film aficionados, with shows put on for visitors every day of the week except Mondays.
